The traditional upholsterer is becoming a very rare person to find. However the upholstery skills for which he is employed are still in good demand. This page is dedicated to show off the talents of our upholsterer. We have our own traditional upholstery workshop here in the South Hams of Devon where you can see Darren our ‘well fed’ upholsterer showing off his skills. A traditionally upholstered chair or suite will last for decades and remain comfortable throughout its lifetime.
Leather repair is also a speciality of ours. We can revive and restore leather suffering from scuffs, scratches, stains, cuts, tears, burns and stretched stitching. The pictures below show some examples of the leather repair and restoration work we have undertaken.
Interior design - Often our upholsterer will work closely with interior designers to create unique pieces of upholstery such as bespoke curtain pelmets or the custom design headboards shown in the pictures below.
Frame repairs : Including removing old wormed joints and stretchers
**NOTE** We can advise and provide estimates from pictures sent via email.
Here our upholsterer is hand sewing double-cone steel springs to create a traditionally upholstered seat for this Victorian spoon back chair. The springs are sewn into the webbing and then lashed together which makes the individual springs acts as one unit and evenly spread the weight.
Our upholsterer is seen here deep buttoning the chair back. The button is first positioned loosely, allowing him to manipulate the fabric into diagonal pleats between each button. The button is then pulled tight and tied off.
